The Travellers’ Tales Festival

“A who’s who of international travel writing and photography.” – Daily Telegraph

In 2009 and 2010, I led the Travellers’ Tales Festival, the world’s only festival of travel writing and photography.

For one amazing weekend each year, we created a global gathering of the greatest travel writers and photographers on the planet. Together with an audience of ardent fans of travel, writing and photography, we created a conversation about the world that was also a celebration of the craft.

Lectures, interviews and workshops brought together writers, photographers, journalists, film-makers, novelists and explorers to share journeys, experiences, insights and inspirations.

Our venue was the Royal Geographical Society in London, historic home of British exploration and discovery.

Keynote speakers included Don McCullin, John Simpson, Colin Thubron, Steve McCurry, William Dalrymple, Jan Morris, Frans Lanting, Dervla Murphy, Art Wolfe, Fergal Keane, Alexander McCall Smith, Sara Wheeler, Colin Prior, John Blashford-Snell, Jonathan Scott, Robin Hanbury-Tenison, Benedict Allen, Chris Stewart, Simon Reeve, panellists curated by Granta and the British Guild of Travel Writers, travel editors from the national newspapers and magazines, and many others.

The Festival was led by myself, with Steve Watkins as Photography Director and Amy Sohanpaul as Literature Director.
